Welcome to the New Year! This is a popular time of year for folks to set new goals and plan out some fun stuff. We always talk about goal setting and the importance of setting goals, being specific, and working towards an achievement. Having goals help to keep us on track and motivated. Working towards something seems to make the morning sun brighter and the hardwood floor warm and soft. And so what happens when you reach a goal? Set a new one of course!
But let’s focus on reaching that goal. The feeling of accomplishment is wonderful. It may be overwhelming; it may take a little time to fully “sink in”. Sometimes it’s non-eventful and no big deal. Maybe you earn a trophy, maybe your name up on the wall somewhere, maybe internet land fame, maybe a gold star for the refrigerator. Who knows? But, the bottom line, the reward is not the real objective. We set a goal as a target to work towards; it’s the “carrot” to pursue. All the while, the pursuit is when you are really winning and enriching your life. It’s the journey itself, not the journey’s end. So embrace each obstacle, treasure the pains and pleasures. Swallow the suck, embrace the uncomfortable things, yearn to learn and expand your horizon and smash records this year. Let’s go!
