Rain? Pffft, no problems.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we’ve scheduled our annual Barbells For Boobs event.  This Saturday, October 12, be here.  Donate if you can.  Be sure to join our Team.

Time is running out to raise money.  It looks like Timmy has raised the most money so far.  Who can knock him off the top?

From Coach Dave-

‘Hey Fam, I thought I would share this cool video CrossFit put out the other day about beauty, from the perspective of some of the elite CF games athletes.  It might seem misleading in that only images of hard bodied elite athletes are shown in the video, but the message is clear if you will only listen.  I’d even recommend not watching the video at first, to better hear the message.  In my opinion, this is right in line with what beauty is and how I perceive it.
It makes me think of what Dad said – Live life to the fullest.  Be the best that you can be at whatever you choose to do.
It’s that person that strives to use their own talent and ability to live at their own personal zenith, the peak of the their emotional, spiritual, relational, and physical potential, that is beautiful.  The woman who is confident with where and who she is, and is capable of performing well wherever she chooses to be, as a mother, athlete, lawyer, housewife, accountant, teacher, friend, etc., she is beautiful.
We see so many men and woman come into our gym uncomfortable, embarrassed of their bodies, and afraid to expose their weaknesses, and all they want is to lose weight or get toned.  Of course that is a worthy and valuable aspiration, but we push them to forget about their weight, accept who they are in that very moment, and then focus on moving and living better, in and out of the gym.  Unfailingly do we see these people gradually get stronger, move better, surprise themselves at what they can do, and suddenly they forget about their weight or the excess fat here or there and all they want is to get pull ups without bands, or to do a strict push-up, or to deadlift their bodyweight, or to do a workout as prescribed.  The aesthetic changes in their body may be unperceivable at first, real and healthy change takes time, but their confidence and ability often increases by leaps and bounds – suddenly these people exude beauty!  I love seeing this change!  And it continues on and on this way, and I hope that their perception of their own beauty and that of others will change for good. I hope they will recognize others as beautiful not because they look like they belong on a magazine, but when they see someone who is confident, vibrant, and good at what they do.  And I hope they will teach this to their children.  The world will be better.
If you think of it this way, you can really consider beauty to be a skill. It can be learned and developed without any change in physical shape or appearance, a psychological adaptation really, and is perhaps much more an internal characteristic that we all realize.
I’ll step down from my soapbox now, but it’s so great when someone can collaborate the thoughts of extraordinarily people into a profound ideal and communicate it well – especially when it’s a worthy ideal that so many need to hear.  Enjoy.”  Coach Dave
